Holy moly! I was expecting the totality to be cool, but it ended up being WAY cooler than expected!

Pops was a little dismissive at first, wondering why we’d drive so many hours for just a few minutes of darkness. Over the course of the day, though, our excitement rubbed off and he was as giddy as the rest of us.

Our original plan was to hike up to California (a lookout on that mountain in the background), but I’m glad we didn’t. Turned out there was a pretty sizable crowd assembled up there and it was much more fun with just the family:
