When I was a little kid, my family spent a lot of time at Montaña de Oro State Park
(just south of Los Osos, CA). My early memories of the place are a little vague, but I’ve seen many old photos of me (often half naked) playing in and around the tide pools. And let me tell you: the tidepools at Montaña de Oro are fucking outstanding!

I’ve since been back a number of times. (Surfing, hiking, camping, etc.) It’s less than two hours from Santa Barbara. On one trip, I dragged Sarah down to the tidepools and found that they were just as good as I remembered. Here are some snail trails we found.

I still think of the park (the name means “Mountain of Gold,” for those of you who don’t habla Español) as one of the most beautiful places in the world. (I’ve posted
several
pictures
of the
place
in the past.)
