I’d been working on the house earlier in the day (replacing some hardboard siding) when I saw our neighbor wandering around in his driveway with a cereal box. He told me he’d made a little eclipse viewing box and I said “Great idea!” I picked Otis up from daycare and we put some aluminum foil on top of a Chex box. I poked two holes in it: a big one for looking in and a tiny pinhole for the eclipsed sun to shine through. (Kinda like the kid in #23 here.)
It worked like a charm! Here’s the sun, pretty much at the peak of the eclipse for our location.
