the roof

I met Doug out at Dad’s place a couple weeks ago. Our mission: get the roof on the cabin. We didn’t finish, but we did get the rafters in place. That’s a lot easier to write than to do. With the ridge pole in place, we had to line up the rafters, scribe and grind out notches to get them level and stationary, slice and shim the meet at the top, and screw the bastards in. Some of the rafters were too thin to have deep notches, so they didn’t stay in place very well pre-screws. This made it exciting to try and hold one log in place down below while other logs were swinging down and stabbing the ground all around you.

But holy shit… It looks great: link.
