good luck? we’ll see…

Presentations go wrong all the time, particularly when there’s technology involved. As part of my interview activities at Stellenbosch, I was required to give a 50-minute teaching lecture to a class of undergraduates and present my current research work in the form of a paper. I was planning on incorporating PowerPoint for both of them. As a backup plan (I had no idea if there’d be some kind of wacky South African dongle/adapter that I didn’t have) I made up handouts and enough photocopies for what I thought the size of the audiences would be.

Anyway, while I was in the copy shop, I spotted this little bracelet on the floor, under a table. Picking it up I saw it had an "A" on it! What luck! I stuffed it in my pocket and hoped that the find would bring me good fortune on interview day.

As it turned out, everything went pretty well! We’ll see how lucky this little thing is if they offer me the job…
