Because of the way the flights worked out, I had ample time to walk around and explore the town of Stellenbosch. Being the center of a major wine region in South Africa, the town is a lot like Santa Barbara actually. There are a lot of vineyards nearby and there are usually tall mountains visible in the distance. Except, instead of chintzy fake Spanish Colonial architecture, there are a lot of old Dutch buildings. The downtown area felt very European, given that most of every sidewalk was covered with cafe tables, umbrellas, and well-dressed people smoking cigarettes.
They also say "to let" instead of "for lease." But every time I saw one of these signs, I accidentally read it as "toilet."
