In the southeast corner of the grounds* behind our house there is a blackberry bush growing over the fence. There are four yards that come together there, so I don’t know whose bush it actually is. But there plenty of tasty fruits for the picking all summer.

Last year, after the harvest, I aggressively trimmed back all of the branches on our quarter of the bush. (The internet told me to.) If I hadn’t, the bush would have taken over the entire yard.

But then, this spring, I noticed that none of the neighbors had trimmed their quadrants! As a result, the bush seemed to say, "Fuck you, Andre! Trim my branches… No fruit for you this year!"

Fortunately, the branches eventually grew back and we had the usual surplus of delicious blackberries. We decided we’d try making jam (pictured). It was much easier than we thought and turned out great!

* Note: Our lawn is the size of a mid-range family sedan.

I'm not a big fan of pickles (although Lynne is) but I LOVE jams. Hint, hint.

But you said you can't(/won't) eat blackberries!

Right! How about a little genetic engineering in your back yard and make them seedless. Or, Lynne says, hand pick out the seeds.

You wish!
