Sometimes, when I’m spotted taking pictures out on the street, somebody will run up to me and ask to have their picture taken. Such was the case with this gentleman, who introduced himself as a “True American Prince.”
This has happened to me a few times and it always catches me off guard. I decided recently that it might be time to stop fucking around and start taking pictures of people. (I always think of portraits as being a much more sophisticated and difficult type of photography. But then again, what do I know?!) Maybe I should start by having the presence of mind to take advantage of situations like this, and actually give the shot some thought.
On a related note, I recently discovered Mathieu Young‘s work. I would love to have balls like this guy and just be able to ask people on the street if I could take their picture. (His photo essays are, in my opinion, amazing.)
