Sarah and I like to drive over to Watertown on occasion. We go for two reasons: 1) a couple of decent thrift stores, and 2) the closest Five Guys.
Watertown is typical for upstate New York: a once booming manufacturing hub, now a sprawling collection of empty warehouses, run-down homes, and decaying municipal facilities. According to the Internet, in the early 19th century the city had more millionaires per capita than any other in the country. Walking around today, you get the sense that this is no longer the case. Add the depressing military aura of nearby Fort Drum and, well…
We went a couple weeks ago and, after burgers/fries/t-shirts, decided we’d explore the town a little more on the way back. There’s a short riverwalk along the Black River that cuts right through town. Here’s our shadows!
